Packrat Software was founded in 2000 as a response to the lack of feature rich yet affordable billing programs for the
small to medium sized DME/HME provider.
"I'm a big believer in the small business in this country," states Lyn Lester, owner and founder of Packrat Software. "The
'Mom and Pop' businesses are being driven out and the cost of the majority of DME billing packages is beyond what these
small businesses can afford. On the flip side, the software they can afford lacks features that the DME provider needs.
DMEDirect was written to fill this gap."
With nearly 20 years of programming experience, most of which was spent writing EDI programs as Director of Information
Services for Safety 1st, Inc., creators of the famous Baby on Board sign and innovators of the baby proofing industry, Ms.
Lester teamed with Neal Catalano, owner of Diabetes Specialty Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, to create a program suitable
to the DME industry. Thus DMEDirect was born. Over the years, DMEDirect has continued to grow with features suggested
by additional clients specializing in diabetes supplies, oxygen, motorized vehicles and rehabilitation.
As Ms. Lester says, "DMEDirect is very much a collaboration. My clients know what they need, and as a programmer it is
my job to incorporate their needs into the software in an easy-to-use manner. Together we make a very knowledgeable
team."
